ABOUT VEENA MEHTA:

First, a bit about myself...

Born and raised in Mumbai, India by amazing parents. Thanks to them as well as my grand-dad with their tremendous support, encouragement, I was able to nurture my creative side while growing up. I was very much into sewing, oil paintings, Batik, and dancing. You’ll see some of my creations from that time into my photo gallery (other Arts-Page).

In 1972 got married and came to USA. For next 48 years, I went through life’s trials and tribulations, was blessed with one wonderful son who’s a doctor, educated myself further. I was lucky enough to get exposed to and work with different companies, met amazing people who enriched my life professionally as well as personally.

In 1984 proceeded with divorce, starting and establishing myself all over again. This is the period my sense of creativity kicked in in full force allowing me to channel my inner loss and turning into something beautiful. I’ve started with journaling my inner thoughts.

In 2019 after I retired, I made another big decision. I’ve uprooted myself from New Jersey and moved to Arizona, was a decision made when I visited Arizona as a tourist. Arizona to me is a land of sunshine, vast openness, blue sky, surrounded by mountains as well as Saguaros. After moving to Arizona, my first visit was to our local library as I am an avid reader, look for ideas, etc. That’s where I found this adult center where all the arts classes, exercises sessions are being promoted. This is where my Ceramic interests being born and started creating new products. Thankfully, everything is provided at the center(except greenware-raw product)including kiln. Where your item(s) is fired for a final stage. it’s an amazing experience/feeling to watch your item is being born in its sparkling/colorful/glazed glory.
